King Tut: Ancient Egypt's Most Talked About Pharaoh

One of the world’s most popular historic figures has hit the headlines once again. King Tut is proving that you don’t have to be alive to be talked about – in fact you don’t have to have been living for the past couple millenniums! Over the past forty years King Tut has been the topic of much historic gossip, and earlier this month was no exception.

After decades of speculation, scientists have finally revealed the cause of King Tut’s death. It is not an exciting, scandalous or heroic death as originally hypothesised... it appears that the king died of complications from a broken leg aggravated by malaria. The King Tut Exhibition of the 1970s set astonishing records - but the latest exhibition, 'King Tut and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs', hopes to give it a run for its money. With stops in San Francisco, Denver, Toronto and New York, the exhibit promises to be a great draw for tourists. It includes an outstanding array of Tutankhamen's burial objects. In addition to 50 objects straight from Tut’s tomb, there is an array of other Egyptian artefacts from the 18^thDynasty. Often called the 'Golden Age' of Egypt, this period this exhibition covers spans around one hundred years, including those when King Tut was ruler. You can also watch in engaging forensic study of King Tut's mummy. The cause of Tut's death is explored via CT scan images and there is also a life-sized bust created by forensic specialists showing what they believe he looked like.

'Tut Mania' first took place at 1972 when the first exhibition launced at the British Museum, with visitors queueing over eight hours to catch a glimpse of King Tut's treasures. Visitors to the latest exhibit have already reached around 4 million, so it wouldn't be surprising if the latest exhibit where to break new records. There are iconic pieces from King Tut's tomb that have never been outside of Egypt before, as well as some iconic objects. Even if you aren't in one of the cities the exhibit is visiting, you should try and see it.
